1-Day vs. 2-Day Coating Systems
Epoxy coatings can be applied using a 1- or 2-day system. The main difference between the systems is coating time for the base coat, which significantly impacts durability and longevity.
1-DAY
A 1-day system cures quickly because of its thinner coat and quick-dry materials. However, this shortened process can trap moisture, leading to potential peeling or blistering and a higher risk of premature failure due to rushed application and limited curing.
2-DAY
A 2-day application system provides the best results for durability and long-term investment. A high-build primer is applied on Day 1 and left to cure overnight. This allows the primer to deeply penetrate the concrete, creating an effective moisture vapor barrier. The selected finish and topcoat are applied on Day 2 over the fully cured surface. This creates a stronger epoxy bond and a thicker overall surface coating. The result is superior moisture resistance and long-term performance.
